Alistair Baldwin is a writer, comedian, critic, improviser & muscle-disease-haver.
Completing a four year Bachelor of Screenwriting (Honours) from the Victorian College of the Arts, his passion for screenwriting has led him to provide script coverage for Village Roadshow, take on a writer’s room attachment with The Dr Blake Mysteries, be selected for the Screen Australia & Film Victoria funded Talent Camp initiative earlier this year & write jokes for The Weekly on ABC.
He has also written satire, criticism and opinion for SBS, Vice, ACMI Ideas, Archer, un Magazine, Art + Australia Journal et.al., and was a 2016 Next Wave Writer In Residence.
A stand-up comic and trained improviser, he was named a Raw Comedy Victorian State Finalist for 2017 and performs monthly with his improv team The Level Sevens – record-breakers for competitive improv at Melbourne’s Improv Conspiracy theatre. He is performing in the split-show Young, Rich & Bald at MICF 2018.
He’s also a regular host/MC for various comedy nights, including Lemon Comedy at Hares & Hyenas and Tournament of Teams at The Improv Conspiracy.
The quality of any gala often rests largely with the ability of the host – and in this role, [Alistair] excelled. He kept the audience’s energy up between comics with warm repartee and generous introductions. His own material is terrific, managing to cover off topics ranging from Australia Post to cuttlefish in his mild-mannered, seemingly good natured shtick. – Squirrel Comedy.
